5 simple ways to unclogging your drains
Having a clogged drain can be a bit of an inconvenience, common but still an inconvenience. The lucky thing is most times they are able to be unclogged simply at home without the need for a plumber. Depending on the location in your home the clog can be caused by many things, the most common two are food leftovers and hair, though. Today, we bring all our Australian followers these five simple ways to unclog your drain, so you can get back to life without spending a fortune at the plumber.
Bent Wire Hanger –
If you have a clog that isn’t too far down the drain you can use an old metal wire hanger to try to reach the clog. Simply take the hanger and undo the hook part making the hanger straight, then take the end and bend it in a small amount to form a smaller hook, simply slowly slide that hanger down the drain and go fishing for the clog.
Baking Soda & Vinegar & Boiling Water –
This is a more natural alternative to harmful chemicals. You will need 1/3 cup of vinegar, 1/3 cup of baking soda and a small saucepan of boiling water. First pour in the baking soda, then the vinegar this will create a fizz let the mixture sit for about 30 minutes and follow it up with the saucepan of boiling water down.
Clean The Pipe –
sometimes you can’t simply unclog the pipe with a mixture, there are times when you will need to physically take the pipe apart and clean it. This is especially true for sink pipes with S curves.
Salt & Baking Soda & Boiling Water –
if the baking soda and vinegar didn’t do the trick, it is time to try this trick. Mix ½ cup of table salt with ½ cup of baking soda and pour down the drain, leave this sit for 10-20 minutes then pour the boiling water down the drain. This mixture is known to help clear even the nastiest blockages.
Dish Soap –
if you are dealing with a clogged toilet ¼ cup of dish soap and some boiling water can help solve your problem. The dish soap lubricates the pipes while the boiling water helps break up the clog and move it along. Be sure to wear rubber gloves with this method and also once you pour the boiling water down get the plunger out and start to plunge the toilet.
